Congratulations on your nomination for one of the Student Council offices. You have shown responsibility already by turning in your form on time and writing some great letters. I look forward to hearing your speeches on Monday the 17th. Be sure to read all the rules below.
Monday 5-17: Hang one poster in the MPR between 8:25 and 8:45. Bring your own tape to hang it up. Speeches at 10:00am in library
Tuesday 5-18: Campaign Day! Pass out campaign stickers or flyers before and after school and during lunch.
Wednesday 5-19: Election Day!! Vote in Miss Tracy or Mr. Walling’s classroom.
All 3 days and NOW Campaign by talking to your classmates.
Poster Criteria:
-You may hang one poster in the MPR in the spot designated for the office you are running for between 8:25 and 8:45 on Monday. Please bring your own fun tack or tape.
-The posters may stay up until the end of the day Wednesday the 19th. They must be removed by 3:30 on Wednesday or they will be disposed.
Speech Criteria and Suggestions:
-Speeches will be given between 10:15am and 11am in the library. All candidates need to be to the library at 10:00 on Monday May 17th.
-Be sure to give your name and the office for which you are running at least once during your speech.
-Talk about why you would be good for the specific office. Address the qualities you have and why they are important for that office.
-Do not promise things that you may not be able to deliver.
-Do not say anything negative about any other candidates. Stick to the positive things about you.
-It helps to have a slogan or saying that people will remember. Not everyone at Painted Sky knows you.
-Speeches may not be more that 2-minutes (120 seconds). Practice at home and time your speech. There will be a timer, and you will be asked to sit down after two minutes whether you are finished or not.
-You may use props, but you must be able to hold them, have someone to hold them or set them up quickly or require no set up.
-Be creative. The unique speeches with catchy slogans or hooks will be the ones that are remembered and the candidates that will win.
-Memorize your speech, so you look at the audience. Speak slowly, loudly, and clearly. It won’t do any good to make a speech if people can’t hear or understand you.
-Dress nicely to make a good impression.
-Practice, Practice, Practice for anyone who will listen (parents, grandparents, dog, etc.).
Campaign Day – TUESDAY:
-You may pass out stickers or flyers on this day as long as it is not during class time.
-You will automatically be disqualified if you pass out food or toys.
-You may campaign by talking to people on any day. However, you may not pass out things on Monday or Wednesday, only on Tuesday.
